La Boheme Triptych

  I'm now working straight towards the Rose Theater exhibition, in particular the series based on the dress re-rehearsal of 'La Boheme' at the Royal Albert Hall. I wanted to capture the movement of the singers, and the last few seconds of the opera itself. They are also an experiment with my new trick of leaving areas unpainted. With these paintings I plan to leave the areas which the viewer would not be focusing on unpainted so that the eye is drawn to the detail and figures. These patches would shift over the three paintings following the narrative and action.

  They are close to being finished but not there yet, not quite. They are not sharp enough, the lines are too mushy and the texture too flat. I think another few days is all that is needed and then they'll be a very affective and smooth series.
  The colours are working slightly better now, more subtle and less overpoweringly brown but its something which could still be worked upon.
